Design for 3D printing - Bed adhesion - Geometry
All maker will tell you that bed adhesion is essentiel and critical in printing. Here some design tips to help the 3D printing.
When possible, avoid 90º angle or less. Those corner will more likely peel off the print bed when the plastic retract.
To avoid, high risk of peeling off. Normal 90º, printable with a brim. Easy to brim even without a brim.
Another tip, having fillet going towards the inside of your part will increase the risk of peeling off due to plastic retraction. (Left image, Red arrow). Fillet going towards the outside will help to prevent this issue. (Left image, Green arrow)
If your design is similar to the image on the right, a brim, a skirt or a larger initial layer can be added by the maker in the slicer to help printability.
In all those situations, the designer should be aware of the material properties that will be printed (Retraction, bridging, temperature of fusion and printing, etc...), helping him in is conception.
